特に実験心理学的手法を用いた、サイエンスとしての言語と認知の研究に関心があります。特に第二言語に着目し、学習者の知識体系がどのようになっているか、あるいはそれがどう習得され、発達し、使用されるかといった認知メカニズムに焦点を当てて研究しています。

言語は当たり前すぎて、ふだん立ち止まって考えることはありませんし、第二言語の習得メカニズムには、自身の学習経験に基づく思い込みも多くあります。しかし、言語の習得・使用の背後には、私たち自身が気づかない「心の仕組み」があります。ゼミでは、日常の中に潜む問いを見つけ、文献を読み、議論し、調査や実験で得られるデータで実証的に確かめるといったことを行います。見慣れた世界が少し違って見えるようになる、そんな学びの場にしたいと思っています。
